Reps. Cook and Takano Introduce Bill To Ensure Fair Housing Benefit for Student Veterans
Rep. Paul Cook (R- Apple Valley) and Rep. Mark Takano (D- California), introduced HR 245, the Veterans’ Education Equity Act. This bipartisan bill fixes a discrepancy in the way the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) currently determines Post-9/11 GI Bill housing payments for student veterans that prevents some veterans from receiving a fair housing payment.
REP. LIEU INTRODUCES LEGISLATION TO GIVE HOMELESS VETERANS ACCESS TO LEGAL SERVICES
Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) introduced the Legal Services for Homeless Veterans Act of 2016. This legislation would authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs to enter into agreements with third parties to provide pro bono legal services to homeless and at-risk Veterans across the country. A recent study by the VA found that at least five out of the top 10 problems leading to homelessness among Veterans cannot be solved without legal help.

Mayor Lee Announces New Mission Bay Project to House Formerly Homeless Veterans
Mayor Edwin M. Lee announced plans for a new 101-unit project to provide housing for 50 formerly homeless veterans and 50 low-income families at 1150 Third Street in Mission Bay and an onsite manager unit. The project will be built on land dedicated to the City’s Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) for affordable housing and is supported with an initial $5 million in private contributions from technology and business leaders marshalled by the San Francisco Citizens Initiative for Technology & Innovation (sf.citi).

The Town Hall was held in the Wadsworth Theater located on the West LA VA campus. It was well attended by veterans, community members, providers and interested parties. The Town Hall focused on the steps the VA has taken during the first 100 days since the release of “Veterans Homelessness Strategy and Action Plan for Greater Los Angeles: Key Strategies.”
New Transitional Veterans Program At West Los Angeles Veterans Home

West Los Angeles VA Homeless Veteran Treatment Facility Contract Awarded
LOS ANGELES, CA - December 5, 2012 - (RealEstateRama) -- The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has selected a contractor to seismically upgrade and renovate Building 209 on the north end of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLAHS), West Los Angeles campus.
