Congressman John Garamendi Introduces Comprehensive Bill to Address California Drought and Water Infrastructure
Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City), the representative for 200 miles of the Sacramento River located in the 3rd Congressional District, introduced legislation that would modernize California’s water management policies and provide short-term and long-term solutions to alleviate California’s ongoing drought. The legislation is specifically designed to align with Proposition 1, the water bond recently passed by California voters. This will ensure that federal, state and local agencies will be able to fully coordinate on the implementation of the projects funded and authorized by the bill.
City reduces storm drainage service rates
The City of Sacramento is reducing drainage rates on commercial vacant parcels following a review of the drainage rate structure. The reduction will benefit 627 property owners of 1342 vacant parcels, saving them an estimated average of $956 per year. The City Council approved the revised rate structure on May 10.

Costa Commends Efforts to Complete Water Recycling Program
Rep. Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after the Bureau of Reclamation signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the North Valley Regional Recycled Water Program (Program). The Program is a regional solution to address part of the continuing California water crisis. Four men were arraigned today for defrauding investors of over $1 million from investors for a project to build a miniature golf course, restaurant, and water park in San Clemente. Christopher Schlegel, 36, Rancho Santa Margarita, is charged with four felony counts of using an untrue statement in the purchase or sale of a security and one felony count of using a device with a scheme to defraud with sentencing enhancements for aggravated white collar crime over $100,000, aggravated white collar crime over $500,000, property damage or loss over $65,000, property loss over $200,000. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 16 years in state prison. He is being held on $530,000 bail and must prove the money is from a legal and legitimate source before posting bond.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) Office of the Public Administrator (PA) will showcase homes on social media that are up for auction in July. There will be nine houses up for auction located all throughout Orange County and pictures of each house will be posted on social media weekly. Two of the houses up for auction are from the Office of the Public Guardian. The auction is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Law Library of the OCDA, 401 Civic Center Drive West, Santa Ana
CITY RELEASES THIS YEAR’S LIST OF PEOPLE OR ORGANIZATIONS OWED MONEY FROM THE CITY
Property owners will have 60 days from the date of the first publication to submit a valid claim. The deadline to submit a valid claim is June 30, 2016. Valid claims will require proof of ownership. The City expects the claims administration process will take several months. At the end of this process, any unclaimed property will become the property of the City of Sacramento.
