Nadel Architects-Designed Shopping Center Breaks Ground in South Gate
Torrance, CA – September 21, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Construction has begun Azalea shopping center, a new 350,000-square-foot retail project on the northwest corner Atlantic Avenue and Firestone Boulevard in Southgate, Calif. Designed by Nadel Architects, cost of the project was not disclosed.
Accounting for nearly 40 percent of the United States population, the Hispanic demographic is quickly becoming a driving force in economic development. With Azalea, Nadel focused its design efforts on addressing this growing Hispanic population.
“This is an extremely underserved area when it comes to retail, which will make Azalea Center a great amenity for area residents,” emphasized Greg Lyon, vice president in charge of the project in Nadel’s Los Angeles office. “With the community in mind, our design will be a contemporary, upscale look that appeals to the aesthetic tastes and retail preferences of the local Hispanic consumer base.”
Situated on a 33-acre site originally owned by the City of Southgate, the open-air center’s 350,000 square feet of ground-up retail will include space for six ‘big box’ or in-line major retailers; more than 100,000 square feet of boutique retail, dining and daily-needs retail; additional outparcel shops and stand-alone pad tenants. To be anchored by Walmart, current tenants include Marshall’s, PetCo, CVS and In-N-Out among others. The center will have parking for 1,900 vehicles.
The project owner/developer is Primestor Development, Inc. In addition to Greg Lyon, Nadel’s architectural project team includes project director David Anderson and project manager Alexander Catala. Construction is expected to be completed in January 2014.
Partial list of tenants released by Primestor includes:
Anna’s Linens
