Rep. U.S. Reps. While there are no official estimates as to how many businesses and homeowners are eligible to receive these loans, we do know that the owners of the 189 homes and 8 commercial structures that were destroyed may be eligible to receive these loans should they choose to apply and meet SBA criteria. In some situations, renters may also be eligible to receive loans for personal property damages

Tulare County has been hit hard by California’s five-year drought and is often called drought’s “ground zero.” With no end in sight, the imperative for water conservation continues in the county and throughout California. The Department of Water Resource (DWR) will have an exhibit at the Tulare County Fair to help attendees learn how they can conserve water in the home.

Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MEHDI MOAREFIAN, also known as “Michael Miller,” 37, of Irvine, California, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 52 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for participating in an extensive mortgage loan modification scheme.  MOAREFIAN also was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,390,496.59.

Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that two California residents involved in an extensive mortgage loan modification scheme were sentenced today in Bridgeport federal court. U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill sentenced SERJ GEUTSSOYAN, also known as “Anthony Kirk,” 34, of Santa Ana, to 52 months of imprisonment, and DANIEL SHIAU, also known as “Scott Decker,” 30, of Irvine, to 58 months of imprisonment. GEUTSSOYSAN and SHIAU also were ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay restitution in the amount of $2,390,496.59

A 53-year-old man was sentenced today to 95 years to life in state prison for kidnapping and robbing a 79-year-old woman, and burglarizing the home of another elderly woman, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The Justice Department today filed a lawsuit alleging that several mortgage loan modification service providers violated the federal Fair Housing Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act by intentionally discriminating against Hispanic homeowners by targeting them for predatory mortgage loan modification services and interfering with their ability to receive financial assistance to maintain their homes.  The defendants named in the lawsuit are The Home Loan Auditors LLC, Century Law Center LLC, SOE Assistance Center Inc., Spieker Law Office and the principals of these entities:

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today applauded the California State Transportation Agency for awarding $45 million in new cap-and-trade funds as part of the Transit and Intercity Rail Capacity Program (TIRCP) to allow for growth and modernization of San Francisco’s light rail vehicle (LRV) fleet. A 28-year-old man was found guilty today of robbing a home that resulted in the fatal shooting of a fellow burglar, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Gus Polly Adams was convicted of one count each of first-degree residential robbery and first-degree residential burglary. The jury also found true the special allegations that Adams inflicted great bodily injury and elder abuse

A 17-year-old was charged today with fatally stabbing his former girlfriend in her Pico Rivera home last Friday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Rory Murga (dob 4/18/99) of Pico Rivera has been charged as an adult with one count of murder in case VA142607.
