Man Sentenced to Prison for Long Beach Home-Invasion Robbery
WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — A 28-year-old man was sentenced today to 12 years in state prison for burglarizing a home that resulted in the fatal shooting of a fellow burglar, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
On Aug. 22, a jury found Gus Polly Adams guilty of two felony counts in case NA099761: first-degree residential robbery and first-degree residential burglary.
The jury also found true the special allegations that Adams inflicted great bodily injury and elder abuse.
Jurors, however, acquitted Adams of one count of murder.
Deputy District Attorney Rachel Hardiman, who prosecuted the case, said on July 22, 2014, Adams and accomplice Andrea Miller, 28, broke into a house in Long Beach.
During the burglary, the 80-year-old homeowner walked in on Adams and Miller as they were committing the crime.
After Adams and Miller beat the victim, the elderly man armed himself with a handgun and fatally shot Miller, the prosecutor said. Following the shooting, Adams fled the scene.
Authorities were alerted about the crime, located Adams and later arrested him.
The defendant’s mother, Ruby Adams, who served as a lookout during the incident pleaded no contest to one count of first-degree residential burglary on Jan. 14.
On Feb. 2, Ruby Adams, 52, was sentenced to three years in state prison.
The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
