Port of Richmond, California, to Receive $11.25 Million for Berth 8 Repairs

-

Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA) announced $11,250,000 in federal funding for the Port of Richmond’s RESTORE Berth 8 Project. The grant program is administered by the Maritime Administration.

According to Garamendi’s office, the money will repair deteriorated piles, beams, deck surfaces and berthing systems that constrain operations and pose safety risks to workers. He secured the funding after writing to the Maritime Administration as part of the FY 2026 Port Infrastructure Development Program.

Port Director Charles Gerard said the funding will improve supply chain resilience and reduce operational disruptions. The amount is in addition to over $11 million Garamendi secured last year.

Why it matters

The grant funds structural repairs at a Bay Area port, a commercial and industrial facility.
