The Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (HACoLA) operates affordable housing programs, such as the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), which rely on the Federal government for their funding. Section 8 provides housing to over 23,000 households in Los Angeles County, including seniors, disabled, homeless, mentally ill and the working poor. Because the earlier sequester required public housing authorities to draw down reserves from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) earlier in the year, HACoLA funding is nearly exhausted.

WALNUT GROVE, CA - September 25, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today congratulated UC Davis’s Institute of Transportation Studies on being selected in a national competition to lead a new two-year, $11.2 million research consortium for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The newly created National Center for Sustainable Transportation (NCST) will receive funding through a $5.6 million grant from the U.S. DOT and $5.6 million in matching funds from state, regional, and local agencies.
