April 27, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Revised Draft 2008-2014 Housing Element of the Long Beach General Plan is now available for public review. The Housing Element is a chapter of the Citywide General Plan and analyzes the housing needs in the City of Long Beach while establishing a variety of programs to address these needs. The Housing Element has been developed over a period of 18 months, with extensive community input and participation. A copy of the document can be accessed online at http://www.lbds.info/planning/advance_planning/housing_element_update.asp.

The City’s Planning Commission will hold a public meeting to review the Revised Draft Housing Element on May 7, 2009, at 5:00 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers, 333 W. Ocean Blvd. All members of the public are invited to attend. The City Council hearing on this item is currently scheduled for May 19, 2009.

“City staff has worked diligently with the community over the last 18 months to ensure that this plan reflects current and future housing needs in the City, as well as the desires of residents for how to address those needs,” said Craig Beck, Director of Long Beach Development Services (LBDS).

Once the Commission and City Council have reviewed and approved the plan it will be sent to the State Housing and Community Development Department for certification. The final Housing Element will then be part of the City’s General Plan and will not be revised again until 2014.
