Los Angeles Visionaries Honored At L.A. Headquarters Association’s 50th Annual Awards Luncheon

Torrance, CA – May 16, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Over the years, Los Angeles notables such as Gene Autry, Mayor Tom Bradley, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Pete Carroll, Councilwoman Jan Perry and Frank Gehry, have been honored by the Los Angeles Headquarters Association (LAHQ) for shaping the city’s economic success and quality of life.

Johnathan Williams joined the esteemed ranks of city and industry leaders whose contributions have strengthened the community to keep the spirit of Los Angeles alive at the LAHQ 50th Annual Awards Luncheon.

More than 400 business and community leaders gathered at The California Club Wednesday to celebrate those dedicated to improving the city. As winner of the Spirit of Los Angeles Award, Williams was honored for his contributions as a pioneer of public education, co-founding The Accelerated School with fellow LAUSD teacher Kevin Sved in 1994. A charter school, The Accelerated School provides inner city students with an unparalleled experience in a seamless intensive learning environment. Williams serves as a Board member for the California Charter Schools Association and is serving his second term on California’s State Board of Education. In 2006, Williams and Sved were honored with the James Irvine Foundation’s Leadership Award.

In addition, LAHQ honored the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as recipient of the Humanitarian Award for their programs and work with children, the homeless and the poor in the Los Angeles region. Deloitte, the world leader in professional services organizations, received the Outstanding Company in Los Angeles Award.

“From LAHQ’s inception more than 50 years ago, we have honored the men and women who have made tireless efforts to build Los Angeles’ colorful, thriving spirit,” said Gregory Schultz, LAHQ president. “We are proud of their contributions to the city and look forward to the next 50 years of success and growth.”

LAHQ was founded in 1965 with the goal of promoting and creating healthy economic growth while enhancing the quality of life in Greater Los Angeles. The 50th Annual Awards Luncheon was held at The California Club on 538 South Flower St., in Los Angeles. A networking reception featuring exhibits from local businesses began at 10:30 a.m., preceding the luncheon at noon. The annual awards luncheon has been a time-honored tradition for LAHQ since the organization’s establishment.
