Twenty-one happy families will gather with friends and family around newly finished kitchens and living rooms this holiday season to honor the hard work and dedication they have invested into the construction of their new homes, their new community and their promising new futures. On November 23rd, 21 proud families join more than 800 families who have already built their own homes with the Coachella Valley Housing Coalition (CVHC) in the City of Coachella, and join a community of more than 1,600 families who have built their homes with CVHC throughout Riverside and Imperial counties.

Last night, the House passed U.S. Congressman Scott Peters’ (CA-52) amendment to the Water Resources Development Act that gives the Army Corps of Engineers the resources to evaluate the structural health of its current infrastructure and construction projects. By using structural health monitoring, the Army Corps can increase the resiliency of potentially vulnerable infrastructure before a disaster strikes, and be able to more quickly evaluate damage after a disaster. A man was convicted and sentenced yesterday for burglarizing the homes of female college students that he found by using Instagram. Arturo Galvan, 45, Menifee, pleaded guilty on Sept. 19, 2016, to five felony counts of first degree residential burglary, one felony count of attempted first degree residential burglary, and one misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing an officer. He was sentenced to eight years in state prison and was ordered to pay restitution to the victims

Accountant, Co-Defendant Plead to Embezzling From County Foster Homes

A Long Beach accountant pleaded guilty today to embezzling money from several county foster homes, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Gary Batchelor, 64, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of misappropriation of public funds and one felony count of filing a false tax return in two separate cases. The group homes were operated by You Are the Difference Foundation and Moore’s Cottage. They were located in Compton, Los Angeles, Altadena and Pomona and served boys ages 13 to 18.
