Water-Efficient Landscape Improvements at City’s Transit Maintenance Facility
Already a LEED-gold certified site, the City of Santa Clarita Transit Maintenance Facility has completed construction for its Landscape Improvements Project which improves the facility’s landscape and water use. The water efficiency project accomplished the removal of approximately 55,000 square feet of water-thirsty fescue grass and has replaced it with water friendly, drought resistant shrubs and mulch.

U.S. EPA Awards $100,000 to Emeryville, Calif., Small Business to Develop Sustainable Green Technologies
Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $100,000 to Industrial Microbes located in Emeryville, Calif., to develop sustainable technologies that address environmental issues. A total of $1.9 million was awarded to 19 small businesses nationwide.

AGUILAR TOURS HOMELESS ACCESS CENTER IN SAN BERNARDINO, MEETS WITH CITY LEADERS
Yesterday, Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31) toured the Homeless Access Center in San Bernardino and met with city leaders to discuss homelessness in the Inland Empire. Rep. Aguilar toured the facility with Mayor Carey Davis, Council member and Mayor Pro Tem Rikke Van Johnson, City Attorney Gary Saenz, and City Council member Virginia Marquez. The tour was facilitated by the center’s Deputy Director of Housing, Brandon Mims and the CEO of Mercy House, Larry Haynes.

U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5) today announced $176,340 in Affordable Care Act funding for Santa Rosa Community Health Centers (SRCHC) in recognition of their achievements in providing high quality, comprehensive care. The funds, provided though the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will be used to expand current quality improvement systems and infrastructure, and improve primary care service delivery in the communities served by the health center.

Homeowners caught in affordability squeeze, are staying put, REALTOR® survey finds
Even with rising home prices over the past few years, many homeowners who have considered selling are deciding not to because they are caught in an affordability squeeze that is compounded by a lack of inventory, according to findings from the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®’ (C.A.R.) “2015 Survey of California Homeowners.”
More than one-third (35 percent) of homeowners have considered selling their home in the past year, and of that share, about two-thirds (64 percent) are reluctant to sell because they are finding they can’t afford the home they really want, the survey found.
Infrastructure Alliance Partners Announce First Acquisition, Cross-Sound Cable Company

THOMPSON SECURES MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR AMERICAN CANYON GREEN ISLAND INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT
U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) today announced a $2,438,681 Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment which will support roadway and infrastructure improvements to the Green Island Industrial District (GRID) in American Canyon. The funds will be used to help reconstruct Green Island Road, a goods movement corridor for the GRID. In August, 2014 Thompson urged Northern California’s EDA representative to support the City of American Canyon’s application for federal funding.
Costa Announces $1.6 Million for Community Health Centers in Merced County
Rep. Jim Costa (CA-16) announced a combined total of $1,601,548 for community health centers in Merced County. Livingston Community Health received $1,118,215 and Golden Valley Health Centers received $483,333. These grants are made available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration. The funding will go toward improving and establishing facilities to boost health services in rural areas

Grant Opportunities Available for Owners of Historic Homes in Riverside
The City of Riverside is accepting applications through Aug. 28 for grants of as much as $25,000 that are available through the Historic Preservation Fund, which helps individuals, corporations, non-profit organizations and public agencies improve historic properties within the City limits.
