Valadao Releases Statement on Feinstein Water Bill, Shasta Dam Study

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 30, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The Bureau of Reclamation delivered the Final Feasibility Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the Shasta Lake Water Resources Investigation.

The Bureau of Reclamation (BoR) Report comes just weeks after Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) offered an amendment to the FY 2016 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill which instructed the BoR to complete and submit feasibility studies for two dam creation proposals and three dam expansion projects, of which, included the Shasta Dam expansion.

Congressman Valadao stated, “This study was authorized by Congress over a decade ago and I am relieved to see that progress had finally been made. This is the first step to improving water storage capabilities throughout the State of California.”

In addition to release of the Shasta feasibility study, Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) introduced the California Emergency Drought Relief Act in the United States Senate. According to a statement released by the Senators office, the legislation includes a “range of provisions with the goals of moving and creating water long-term to help those communities suffering the worst effects of the drought, while remaining completely compliant with environmental laws such as the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act as well as all biological opinions.” Congressman Valadao made the following statement following the release of the legislation:
“Today the California Senators introduced a drought bill that included some useful provisions while doing little to deliver more water to California farmers and families. While I cannot support the bill as written, I remain hopeful we can come to an agreement that can advance through the House and Senate.”

Congressman David G. Valadao represents the 21st Congressional District of California, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties.
