Turner Construction Company Nears Topping Out on 555 Mission Street Project http://www.tcco.com
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ — Turner Construction Company said today that the 555 Mission Street project will top out three weeks earlier than planned on Friday, December 7, marking completion of its vertical construction. The 33-story, 670,000-square-foot glass curtain office tower, being constructed on behalf of Tishman Speyer, is located at the center of downtown San Francisco’s rapidly expanding Mission Street corridor.
“This significant milestone is the result of a team effort and needs to be credited to everyone involved,” says Dave Steffens, Turner's project executive. “The subcontractors we've chosen are a key reason we're ahead of schedule, and Tishman Speyer's decision to employ Turner early in the design process ensured the project was set up efficiently.”
The building will be the first Class A office building to be built in the city in the past four years. Located within easy walking distance of restaurants, hotels, and the Union Square shopping area, 555 Mission is adjacent to the Transbay Terminal, a hub to many of the area's transit lines.
A close collaboration between award-winning firms Kohn Pedersen Fox and Heller Manus Architects resulted in the building's exceptional design. It consists of a fa+çade made entirely of floor-to-ceiling glass panels accented with glass and metal fins creating a textural layer that beautifully captures and reflects light.
Other building features include: 3,400 square feet of retail space on the ground floor; two levels of below grade valet parking; 25-foot high, by 140-feet-long cable net supported wall enclosing the lobby; and 11,000-square-foot plaza at street level with a Jonathan Borofsky sculpture.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, a designation issued by the Green Building Council will be sought. The building's original plans were not predicated upon seeking LEED certification. However, seven months after the October 2006 groundbreaking, a number of green techniques and standards were incorporated into the plans. The green elements are focused on enhancing energy efficiency and minimizing the project's overall impact on the environment.
Green elements include: a recycled water distribution system; reflective roof; 20% goal of recycled content in products used in construction; water efficient landscaping; and low-flow toilet fixtures and fittings.
