Rep. Susan Davis Announces Funding to Help San Diego’s Homeless Veterans

-

WASHINGTON, DC – March 28, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) announced $1.2 million for San Diego to help homeless veterans as part the Department of Housing and Urban Development Veteran’s Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH).

“This increase in housing vouchers will help reduce homelessness among veterans and their families,” said Davis.  “We know that San Diego has a high concentration of homeless veterans.  It’s very difficult, knowing the sacrifices these men and women have made on our behalf, to see them living on the street.  Hopefully, through programs such as HUD-VASH we can help turn these lives around.”

The funds will be administered by the San Diego Veterans Administration Medical Center and will help provide permanent housing and case management for 150 veterans around San Diego.

The San Diego assistance is part of a national effort of $72.6 million announced to support more than 10,000 homeless veterans.  The permanent housing assistance provided HUD-VASH is administered by HUD, VA, and local housing agencies across the country.  A most recent estimate shows veterans homelessness has fallen by nearly 12 percent.
