Roadmap Released for a ‘Smart from the Start’ #CleanEnergy Future in California Desert

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) finalized the first phase of theDesert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP) on public lands, a conservation strategy developed by the state of California, the federal government and conservation stakeholders, including Defenders of Wildlife. The plan identifies smart from the start areas for renewable energy development that avoids or minimizes adverse effects on wildlife.

REP. TED LIEU ANNOUNCES VETERANS AFFAIRS GRANTS TO HELP END VETERAN HOMELESSNESS

Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) announced that seven organizations serving Los Angeles City and County received more than $13 million in grants from the Department of Veterans Affairs to fund programs to help end veteran homelessness. The grants will fund support programs for veterans facing homelessness in Los Angeles City and County through the following organizations: New Directions, Inc., Mental Health America of Los Angeles, 1736 Family Crisis Center, People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), Salvation Army – a California Corporation, United Veterans Initiative and Volunteers of America of Los Angeles, Inc.

California Resident Sentenced to 52 Months in Federal Prison for Defrauding Struggling Homeowners

Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MEHDI MOAREFIAN, also known as “Michael Miller,” 37, of Irvine, California, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 52 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for participating in an extensive mortgage loan modification scheme.  MOAREFIAN also was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,390,496.59.
