Media Advisory: World’s Largest Festival Mural to be completed at Downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Avenue Festival
100 foot long LA River Mural banner to be finished with painted hand-print
border. Public invited to participate.
Grand Avenue Festival sponsor and mural production underwriter,
Related Companies, to display finished banner at construction site of
the Grand Avenue project.
— Who: Related Companies, developer of the Grand Avenue project, a
Frank Gehry-designed, $2.5-billion mixed-use development to
be built on nine acres across three city blocks in downtown
LA, has participated as a sponsor of the Grand Avenue
Festival since 2004. Related Companies is also the
underwriter of the LA River Mural banner project, an
artistic metaphor for the community spirit that runs
through Los Angeles.
— What: The 10 foot by 100 foot LA River Mural banner is the
World’s Largest Digitally-Produced Festival-Created Mural.
A ribbon of water symbolizing the Los Angeles River travels
the length of the banner, as it meanders through a collage
of Los Angeles' culturally diverse environment. The public
is invited to join many of the artists who participated in
the project by completing the border with their painted
hand prints.
— When: Sunday, Sept. 30, 1:30 p.m.
— Where: The banner will run down the center of Grand Avenue between
1st and 3rd Streets, and adjacent to Related's festival
booth.
Photo Opportunities:
Grand Avenue Festival organizers, the mural's design team, members of the Grand Avenue and Joint Powers Authority will join Related Companies' in putting the finishing touches on the completed banner. Public is invited to work side-by-side with the mural's design team and artists, and finish the 100 foot long mural depicting the LA River.
