MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA APPOINTS FOUR COMMISSIONERS TO HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 14, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the appointment of four new commissioners to the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) Board of Commissioners: Isabel Ayala, Kimberly Freeman, Dennis Hernandez, and Mitchell Kamin.
“Los Angeles is home to thousands of public housing residents and maintaining a high quality of life for all of our residents is of paramount priority,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “I am confident that these four commissioners will be great additions to the Board of Commissioners and will continue the work of the Board to provide quality, affordable housing to Angelenos in need. I would like to thank our outgoing Commissioners for their hard work and dedication to the people of Los Angeles and the residents of our public housing communities.”
Isabel Ayala – Resident Commissioner
A resident of Ramona Gardens since 1961, Isabel Ayala brings decades of invaluable experience on the needs of residents in Los Angeles.
From 2005-2009, she served on the Resident Advisory Council (RAC) for Ramona Gardens and currently serves as the training coordinator for the RAC. Ms. Ayala also worked at HACLA as an administrative intern from 1997 to 2004. A married mother of eight children, Ayala has been a tireless advocate for social programs serving senior citizens and youth in the community.
Kimberly Freeman
Kimberly Freeman is currently Director of Community Relations for the Southern California Gas Company. In this role, she coordinates philanthropic contributions, community outreach, and employee involvement and develops and maintains strategic alliances with community stakeholders across Southern California region.
Ms. Freeman is also currently an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California School of Policy, Planning, and Development where she teaches coursework on the intersection between government and business.
Freeman received her B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.P.P. from the University of Southern California and an M.B.A. from the Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Dennis Hernandez
Dennis Hernandez is currently Of Counsel at the law firm of Luna & Glushon. He specializes in general business, employment, real estate, land use, environmental, intellectual property, public law and other business matters.
He has over 20 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, specializing in general business litigation, employment, real estate, intellectual property, First Amendment, and entertainment law.
Mr. Hernandez received his B.A. from Loyola Marymount University and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Mitchell Kamin
Mitch Kamin is a principal at the law firm of Bird, Marella, Boxer, Wolpert, Nessim, Drooks & Lincenberg. Since joining the firm in October 2010, he has represented clients in a range of commercial and white collar matters including criminal securities fraud cases, major entertainment lawsuits, partnership disputes, defense of legal malpractice cases, trade secrets matters, and federal tax and mortgage fraud investigations.
Prior to this, he was the President & CEO of Bet Tzedek Legal Services, one of the largest and most successful non-profit law firms in the United States, serving low-income seniors, families, and disabled residents of Los Angeles County.
He holds an B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
These appointments are subject to approval by the City Council.
