Silicon Valley, Calif. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Mike Honda (D-Silicon Valley, Calif.) will welcome U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Julián Castro to the Silicon Valley this FRIDAY for a tour of a new affordable housing facility that will help recently homeless Veterans.

Onizuka Crossing, a 58-unit affordable housing facility in Sunnyvale, will open in mid-April. Half of the units will house formerly homeless families.

“Under Secretary Castro’s leadership, HUD has made a tremendous effort to get the men and women who served our nation, who now live in the shadows, off the street and into a home,” said Honda. “HUD has also been laser focused on housing crises like the one we currently face in the Bay Area. I welcome Secretary Castro to the Silicon Valley and I look forward to continuing to work with him to bring down housing costs and put more of our families into the homes they so badly need.”

Honda and Castro will meet some of the Veterans following their tour of the homes.

Since 2010, when President Obama introduced “Opening Doors,” the first federal strategic plan to end homelessness, Veteran homelessness has declined by 36 percent.
