Torrance, CA – March 7, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has hired Douglas William Whiteaker, AIA, as associate vice president and project manager in the firm’s Sacramento office. Whiteaker will focus on new business development, project management and design leadership in the office’s successful Healthcare Practice Group.
“Douglas has a strong background working on diverse healthcare projects throughout California,” said John Justus, AIA, vice president and director of architecture in the Sacramento office. “His knowledge of the healthcare industry combined with his experience managing multidisciplinary design teams will prove a valuable fit. Whiteaker’s healthcare experience includes ambulatory care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, medical office buildings and senior living facilities for leading healthcare providers.
“HGA has an exciting portfolio of healthcare work that promotes innovative approaches to project delivery, design, and care models,” Whiteaker said. “I’m excited to combine my design experience with HGA’s expertise to help grow the Healthcare Practice Group.”
Before coming to HGA, Whiteaker was a project architect with Boulder Associates in Sacramento since 2004, where he managed design staff and led sustainable design initiatives for the firm’s healthcare work.
Prior to Boulder Associates, he was a project manager with Stafford King Wiese Architects in Sacramento and Derivi Construction & Architecture in Stockton, California, where he developed additional expertise in K-12 educational buildings, community centers, and sports facilities.
Whiteaker additionally is an adjunct professor of sustainable design, architecture and construction management at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
Whiteaker has a Master of Architecture from the University of Nebraska and a Bachelor of Science in Advanced Technical Studies in Architecture with a minor in Community development from Southern Illinois University. He is a registered architect, LEED® Accredited Professional, and member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
