HGA-Designed Pediatric Clinic Opens at Axis Community Health Center
Pleasanton, CA – July 19, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The HGA Architects and Engineers-designed Pediatric Clinic at Axis Community Health Center in Pleasanton, Calif., announces its official opening to the Tri-Valley community. By providing full architectural and structural engineering services, HGA’s expansion at the 3,000-SF center helped upgrade the pediatric clinic to a more functional facility and included two new exam rooms, a testing room, a lab, an office and a reception station.
“It was important that the remodel of the pediatric clinic provide function and flexibility at Axis Community Health,” said HGA Project Manager Mike Villaluna. “With the number of people in need of medical aid constantly increasing, our goal was to design a facility that can accommodate more patrons and staff.”
The first phase of the 1,070-SF pediatric clinic expansion included renovating space in another building to house the center’s medical records department. Upon the medical records department relocating to its new space, the former medical records space was then remodeled into the pediatric clinic the community enjoys today. Working within an existing, occupied clinic, the HGA team was able to execute its design plan within the available space and budget while keeping portions of the clinic fully operational throughout the demolition and construction phases.
A notable design element is the pediatric clinic’s new large-scale train in the waiting room, donated by HGA, which will help animate the waiting area and reduce anxiety in the children visiting the clinic. The electric train will run in and out of the waiting area amid colorful walls and a jungle-themed mural, providing entertainment and a sense of comfort to those coming to the clinic for medical exams and procedures.
“It has been such a pleasure working with HGA,” said Axis Community Health CEO Sue Compton. “Not only will the train donation and beautiful mural be enjoyed for years to come, but the expansion comes at an especially critical time for community clinics. The new space will no doubt allow us to serve more patients in the Tri-Valley region.”
Axis Community Health, located in historic Downtown Pleasanton, currently serves 12,000 Tri-Valley residents — a figure that is expected to grow by 15 percent in 2011. The additional exam rooms in the pediatric clinic will help the center accommodate that ongoing growth.
HGA has completed numerous design projects for Axis Community Health at its clinics in Pleasanton and Livermore, Calif., since 1988.
