“The California drought isn’t isolated to one region or one industry—it affects the entire state and will require sacrifices by all.
“The decision by Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta farmers to reduce water use by 25 percent makes sense. Following mandatory statewide residential water cuts, it’s a positive sign that farmers not facing any reductions in water deliveries came to an agreement with the State Water Resources Control Board to cut back on their water use.
“I continue to believe we need a comprehensive plan. This means that, in addition to residential and agricultural conservation measures, we must increase our ability to move water where it’s most needed while adhering to environmental protections; put in place additional measures to protect fish and migratory bird populations; and increase investments in storage, desalination and water recycling.
“I will continue to meet with individuals and groups to come up with ideas to advance each of these key components.”
