CAL FIRE Announces Additional Fire Prevention Fund Grants Projects Will Help Reduce Wildfire Threat

Monday, CAL FIRE announced it had awarded an additional $3 million in grants throughout the state for a variety of fire prevention projects aimed at reducing the elevated threat of wildfires due to the ongoing drought and significant tree mortality. The announcement comes just two months after CAL FIRE released nearly $2 million for fire prevention projects in the counties hit hardest by tree mortality and bark beetle.

Rep. Huffman Leads Bipartisan Defense of Clean Power Plan in Federal Court

Reps. Huffman and Pallone led 208 current and former members of Congress and Senators in filing a bipartisan “friend of the court” brief in support of the Obama Administration’s final Clean Power Plan in the case West Virginia v United States Environmental Protection Agency. In addition to Huffman and Pallone, the brief was filed by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn, Democratic Caucus Chair Xavier Becerra, Democratic Caucus Vice-Chair Joseph Crowley, and Senators Barbara Boxer, Edward Markey, and Senate Democratic Leadership. Oral arguments in the case will be heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on June 2, 2016.

CalHFA Expands Program to Help More Bay Area Residents Become Homeowners

The California Housing Finance Agency today announced a program change that will help more California households qualify for CalHFA Conventional mortgages. Currently, families who earn up to 120% of their county's median income could be eligible for CalHFA loans, although home prices in many communities throughout California still exceed what the median income household can afford. To address this problem, CalHFA has identified 35 California counties that have the greatest disparity between housing costs and household incomes. The maximum qualifying income in these counties has been raised to 140% of the median

SACRAMENTO CITY COUNCIL APPROVES WATER AND WASTEWATER RATE ADJUSTMENTS
