Congresswoman Matsui Marks Flood Protection Milestone in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) celebrated the completion of the American River Watershed Common Features Project as authorized in the Water Resources Development Act of 1996. The Project, in conjunction with other regional flood protection efforts that the Congresswoman has advocated for, will significantly reduce the risk from flooding in the region.

“Today we celebrate stronger levees and a safer Sacramento,” said Congresswoman Doris Matsui.

“Thanks to the completion of these 23 miles of upgrades along the American River, we are maximizing the first line of defense against floods for residents. Building on today’s progress, I will continue to work hard for a sustained federal investment in our flood protection infrastructure in Sacramento.”

In February, the Congresswoman announced that the President’s FY 2017 budget included a nearly $80 Million Flood Protection investment in Sacramento. Including:

Natomas Levee Work ($32.15M combined)
· $21.15M in FY2017 construction funds
· $11M in FY2016 Work Plan funds

Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project ($25.74M combined)
· $20.74M in FY2017 construction funds
· $5M in FY2016 Work Plan funds

Folsom Dam Raise
· $21.04M in FY2017 construction funds
