Washington, DC – August 19, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Emphasizing the vast potential of solar energy in California’s 45th District, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today praised an agreement between First Solar and Southern California Edison that will bring new solar energy projects to the region. The two large-scale installations, among the biggest of their kind, will be built in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and will produce enough energy to power approximately 170,000 homes.
“Our region has outstanding potential as a leader in developing clean, renewable energy,” said Bono Mack. “I am pleased that this agreement will result in a new solar energy project in our District, create jobs and bring us closer to realizing our clean energy goals. This is good news for our community and the future of solar energy.”
Bono Mack noted that the new installations are a 250 megawatt Desert Sunlight project near Desert Center, CA, and a 300 megawatt Stateline project in northeastern San Bernardino County. The solar facilities, which are expected to generate several hundred jobs at each site, will be constructed using industry leading thin-film photovoltaic solar modules by First Solar.
