New CRL Research Reveals Devastating Subprime Foreclosure “Spillover Effect” On Neighbors And Entire Communities, Not Only Individual Homeowners
Findings Arrive as Congress Considers Proposals to Address Predatory Mortgages and Provide Relief to Borrowers Facing Foreclosure.
A new report shows how the subprime foreclosure crisis is affecting individuals, neighbors, and entire communities nationwide. A national study, the data will show large foreclosure impacts on major California communities. This Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) report will be released at 10:30 a.m. PST Tuesday (November 13, 2007) during a live, phone-based news conference.
News event speakers will be:
— Center for Responsible Lending CEO Martin Eakes, and
— National Fair Housing Alliance Executive Director Shanna Smith
The report is being released as civil rights, consumer and housing advocates seek meaningful and lasting solutions to reckless lending and fair treatment for homeowners. Currently, Congress is considering proposals to address the subprime crisis, both to try to help families now facing foreclosure because of abusive loans and to ban the practices that caused the problem in the first place.
