May 31, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today celebrated the Grand Opening of the Manchester- a senior public housing community in South Los Angeles.”One of my highest priorities is to increase our City’s supply of affordable housing,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “And today, we’re putting words into action.”
The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) acquired this property and completed interior and exterior renovations. The renovations transformed 26 one-bedrooms & 2 studios into a 27 one-bedroom senior apartment community for senior citizens
Tenants will pay approximately 30% of the household monthly income, with adjustments for medical expenses that exceed 3% of their annual gross income.
There is on-site case management and educational, health, and recreation activities for the residents. The goal is to promote healthy lifestyles and independent living for the residents.
The project has significant sustainable elements. 75% of the energy in the common areas is supplied by a solar energy system. The heating and cooling systems and the appliances are all Energy Star qualified. All lighting is supplied by CFLs. The site also has laundry facilities, controlled access, and double pained windows for safety.
All apartments are designed to be fully accessible to disabled persons based on ADA standards. The apartments all have a full bath and kitchen, dinning rooms, and living rooms
