Sacramento and BRIDGE Housing held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to mark the completion of a major renovation of Washington Plaza Apartments at 1318 E Street.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 15, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Situated downtown in the historic Alkali-Mansion Flats neighborhood, Washington Plaza is a public housing community of 75 one-bedroom apartments for seniors with low incomes.</p> <p>The property, originally placed in service in 1971, has been fully renewed. The substantial rehab included retrofitting of the building exterior, replacement of nearly all major systems, greening of the project including solar photovoltaic systems, and the enlargement of community spaces to provide room for supportive programs such as service coordination and life-skills training.<span id="more-3080"></span></p> <p>The rehabilitation was a joint effort between the Sacramento Housing Authority Repositioning Program, Inc. (SHARP) and BRIDGE, a nationally recognized nonprofit developer, owner and manager of affordable housing. In addition to Washington Plaza, BRIDGE and SHARP are partnering on the renovations of two other senior buildings in Sacramento: Sierra Vista and Sutterview.</p> <p>“Preservation is critical to maintaining Sacramento’s existing housing assets for vulnerable, low-income seniors, and preparing the buildings for future decades of service,” said Cynthia A. Parker, President & CEO of BRIDGE Housing. “We are thrilled to welcome home the seniors who live at Washington Plaza.”</p> <p>The overall reinvestment of $23 million in Washington Plaza was made by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Merritt Community Capital Corporation, the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, the Housing Authority of the City of Sacramento, the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco Affordable Housing Program, US Bank, the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee and the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee. The architect was Ferrari Moe and the general contractor was Deacon Corp.</p> <p>Ribbon-cutting speakers included Sacramento City Councilmember Steve Hansen, District 4; La Shelle Dozier, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency;
