“Though imperfect, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) underscores the vital role of water supply and management plays in our nation’s economy. In California, this sector supports almost 350,000 jobs and directly contributes $67 billion to California’s economy.
“I am encouraged by provisions that will help eliminate some of the challenges that California local governments and flood control agencies currently face when moving projects forward. I am also pleased that we will take important steps towards addressing the need and ability for local water agencies to store more water in their dams for times of drought.
“I am glad that Congress has finally agreed to invest in this essential system and remove the obstacles that current law creates for local government. Though not perfect, WRRDA will spur economic growth, improve our global competitiveness and create jobs. I look forward to improvements to this bill from a conference committee.”
