REP. LORETTA SANCHEZ APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF HUD REFORM

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 3, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3700, Housing Opportunity Through Modernization Act of 2015:

“I firmly believe that homeownership is the key to creating stable, economically successful households and the key to providing security for current and future generations.

“I applaud this bipartisan effort to promote homeownership and improve homelessness prevention by streamlining, modernizing, and increasing flexibility within federal housing programs.

“I’m also pleased to see this bill directly addresses housing for our nation’s veterans. The bill adds more flexibility for Public Housing Agencies to give housing vouchers to veterans, and allocates grants specifically to fighting veteran homelessness.

“We must do everything we can to keep struggling homeowners in their homes and our veterans off the streets.”

In December, Rep. Sanchez spoke on the House floor about the importance of homeownership to increase upward economic mobility. In 2011 Rep. Sanchez offered several amendments to help families stay in their homes. One of her amendments, which passed the House with bipartisan support, encourages banks to work with qualifying homeowners to get loan modifications.
