OCDA SEEKS POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL VICTIMS OF MAN CHARGED WITH PUBLISHING FRAUDULENT HOME IMPROVEMENT ADS ON CRAIGSLIST AND DEFRAUDING OVER $11,000 FROM CLIENTS
SANTA ANA – July 8, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) is seeking potential additional victims of a man charged with publishing fraudulent home improvement ads on Craigslist and defrauding over $11,000 from clients. Eric Clifton Miller, 35, Buena Park, is charged with seven felony counts of residential burglary, one felony count of grand theft, and six misdemeanor counts of petty theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 17 years and eight months in state prison. He is being held on $140,000 bail and is scheduled for pre-trial on July 24, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
Between September 2014 and March 2015, Miller is accused of posting multiple ads on Craigslist for Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego counties offering to install frameless shower doors. He is accused of posting the service under various business names including, “3 Day Frameless Shower Pros,” and “Frameless Showers.” Miller is accused of meeting with homeowners who responded to the ad, inspecting the bathrooms to be remodeled, providing a reasonable quote, issuing a written estimate/invoice, and requesting a same-day cash or check deposit.
Miller is accused of promptly cashing their check or payment the same day and never returning to perform the work or replying to any clients’ phone calls and emails.
The OCDA Bureau of Investigation investigated this case after receiving numerous complaints from clients who responded to the ad.
Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Andy Terhorst at (714) 648-3615.
Deputy District George McFetridge of the White Collar Crime Unit is prosecuting this case.
