North Hollywood Man Charged with Stealing from Elderly Victims Seeking Mortgage Modifications

Jovanny Malka (dob 9/14/85) is facing six felony counts: three counts of theft from elder or dependent adult exceeding $950 and three counts of grand theft of personal property exceeding $950 in case PA083477.
Malka is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow morning in Department S of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch.
Between April 2012 and November 2013, the defendant reportedly claimed to help fix the mortgages of three women ages 67, 69 and 72. He then kept the money, prosecutors said. One victim allegedly lost $48,000 in the scheme, prosecutors added.
If convicted as charged, Malka faces a possible maximum sentence of six years in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Foothill Station.
