CONGRESSWOMAN PELOSI HEARS CONCERNS OF HOMELESS YOUTH
Larkin Street youth had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share their concerns as homeless young people with Congresswoman Nancy Pelsoi during a roundtable discussion held at the organization’s main service hub. Top of mind was San Francisco’s affordability crisis, however a variety of issues facing youth without stable housing arose, including the need for increasing awareness of services in middle and high school age youth and the lack of services available outside San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Costa Says Five Percent Water Allocation from Federal Government is Immoral
“Sadly, today the Valley is faced with what we all feared and I cautioned against since rains began in January. Despite the El Nino conditions, above average rainfall and an average snowpack in the mountains, today farmers in the San Joaquin Valley have been told they can expect to receive a five percent water allocation from the federal water project,” said. Rep. Costa. “If state and federal agencies had followed my consistent direction and better managed the water in the system, there would have been a different and more positive announcement made today. Instead, as a direct result of the federal agencies failure to act on my recommendations, more land will go fallow, farm workers will be jobless, and the challenges that San Joaquin Valley drought stricken communities face will continue.

SACRAMENTO CITY COUNCIL APPROVES WATER AND WASTEWATER RATE ADJUSTMENTS
The City Council voted tonight to approve the Department of Utilities’ rate adjustments for water and wastewater services. The approved four-year rate adjustments include a 10 percent increase for water and 9 percent increase for wastewater. The first increase for each will take effect July 1, 2016.

U.S. EPA Announces $749,000 for UC Riverside to Research Reclaimed Water
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded $749,631 to the University of California, Riverside to study the human and ecological health impacts of water reuse and conservation practices. University researchers will use the funds to measure levels of contaminants in vegetables irrigated with treated wastewater. HUD REACHES AGREEMENT WITH CALIFORNIA LANDLORDS RESOLVING CLAIMS OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST MEXICAN APPLICANTS
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today an agreement with a Cupertino, California-based property management company, its agents and the owners of a Santa Clara apartment complex to resolve allegations they discriminated against applicants based upon their national origin. HUD alleged that the Salwasser Group, Inc. (doing business as Income Property Specialists) and property owners Gary and Mary Drieger discriminated against prospective renters by refusing to accept Mexican forms of identification, while encouraging a Canadian passport holder to apply for an apartment.
