META HOUSING CORPORATION COMPLETES $20.3 MILLION TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT IN COMPTON, CA

COMPTON, Calif. – September 14, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Meta Housing Corporation has announced the completion of Metro @ Compton Senior Apartments, a $20.3 million, transit-oriented, 75-unit affordable housing development available to seniors aged 55+ in Compton, California.

“There continues to be a tremendous need for affordable housing developments in close proximity to public transportation, especially in urban areas,” says Kasey Burke, President of Meta Housing Corporation. “The Metro @ Compton development transformed a blighted, underutilized vacant lot into 75 high-quality affordable apartment units within walking distance to Compton’s Metro Blue Line light rail and bus station.”

In addition to developing the apartment community, Meta Housing implemented several capital improvements that substantially enhanced pedestrian access to the light rail and bus station.
“By working closely with the City of Compton and the County of Los Angeles, we were able to improve upon the city’s existing transportation infrastructure and provide easier access to nearby amenities for residents,” explains Burke. “The new apartment community will provide quality housing for seniors living on a fixed income, and the capital upgrades we implemented will significantly enhance the livability and economic vitality of the Compton community.”

Metro @ Compton was developed as a Green Point Rated project utilizing a series of sustainable and water efficient features, including solar power and a photovoltaic system that captures sunlight to heat water and generate electricity for the building. Meta Housing also implemented a water-saving gray water system that re-employs water from on-site washing machines for landscape watering.

“At Meta Housing, delivering affordable housing projects that enhance the overall vitality of a city is at the core of what we do,” says Tim Soule, Senior Project Manager at Meta Housing. “For this reason, we work to integrate sustainable features in each of our projects, ultimately reducing each building’s environmental impact on the local community.”

Soule adds, “The recycled water system also plays a significant role in optimizing water efficiency, which is tremendously important during the current California drought.”
The apartment community was developed directly across from Compton’s newly developed Senior Activity Center and includes amenities such as a large community room, outdoor living room and fountain, and a barbeque.

“Another differentiating feature of Meta Housing is our continued focus on increasing activity and engagement for our residents. In the more than 34 senior projects we’ve developed to date, we have consistently integrated spaces and added programs to encourage participation and social ties that help seniors to remain active and healthy,” notes Soule. “Metro @ Compton’s close proximity to the local Senior Activity Center, coupled with the apartment project’s large community spaces will help to foster active engagement and collaboration in an environment that is easily accessible for residents.”

The Metro @ Compton Senior Apartment community was developed by Meta Housing in partnership with Western Community Housing. The community was designed by Y&M Architects, constructed by Optimus Construction Inc. under the supervision of construction manager KKG, Inc. The property is managed by WSH Management.

Located at 302 N. Tamarind Avenue in the City of Compton, the apartment community is comprised of one- and two-bedroom floor plans.
