Mayor Lee’s Statement On Hope SF Hunters View Public Housing Rebuild & Local Jobs
San Francisco, CA – October 3, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement after touring the construction job site of the HOPE SF Hunters View public housing rebuild with Leader Nancy Pelosi:
“Today we begin the vertical construction and celebrate the success of the HOPE SF Hunters View rebuild project in creating jobs for local residents and stimulating the local economy.
On these eight acres of land, we will see 107 new housing units in two years which is great news for the residents of Hunters View, but in addition to that, I also want to share an important fact – SF residents completed 67 percent of work hours on this project with 35 percent by actual Hunters View residents. Hunters View and Bayview residents are helping to rebuild their community, and their participation is important to the revitalization of this neighborhood and community.
This unprecedented opportunity began with former Mayor Gavin Newsom, and with Supervisor Malia Cohen, we are continuing the progress to transform the Bayview community. Hunters View is the first example of the City’s historic investment in rebuilding distressed public housing through HOPE SF, and we are grateful for the support from the federal government, especially Leader Pelosi whose work in Washington D.C. has been instrumental along with Senators Feinstein and Boxer.
The HOPE SF initiative is a comprehensive, collaborative partnership in our City’s efforts to build new homes, provide economic opportunities and services for residents, stimulate the local economy and invest in the Bayview-Hunters Point community.”
