Man Who Barricaded Himself in Santa Monica Apartment Charged with Murder

Deputy District Attorney Steven Gates said David Carrillo (dob 6/8/86) entered the plea to one count of murder with an allegation that he used a knife to commit the murder in case YA092058.
Carrillo is due to return on April 21 to Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Inglewood Branch. Carrillo was charged on Feb. 24.
Carrillo is accused of fatally stabbing Wesley Morejon, 30, with a folding knife outside of the fast food restaurant on the 8900 block of Vermont Ave on Feb. 10, the prosecutor said.
The defendant was arrested on Feb. 21 with the help of a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s police dog after he barricaded himself inside a Santa Monica apartment for nearly five hours, the prosecutor added.
Carrillo faces a maximum possible sentence of life in state prison if convicted as charged.
Bail is set at more than $1 million.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
