Congressman Gary Miller Meets with HUD Secretary Donovan and FHA Commissioner Galante to Discuss Impact of Tehachapi Power Lines on Chino Hills Homeowners
Washington, DC – December 1, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — This morning, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on the health of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Insurance Fund. Prior to this morning’s hearing, Congressman Gary Miller met with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan and FHA Commissioner Carol J. Galante to discuss the impact of California’s Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project on Chino Hills’ homeowners. Following their discussion, Congressman Miller issued this statement:
“I would like to thank Secretary Donovan and Commissioner Galante for meeting with me this morning to discuss the impact the power line project will have on homeowners in Chino Hills. I appreciate their help in determining how the project will impact home values and residents’ eligibility for FHA financing. With the housing market continuing to struggle to recover from the drastic drop in home prices following the mortgage crisis, residents are rightfully concerned about any further decline in the value of their homes as a result of the construction of the power lines. I am pleased that the Secretary has agreed to send high-level FHA officials to meet with homeowners to address and clarify these concerns. Chino Hills’ residents need answers to these questions in order to hold Sacramento accountable for the harm they have caused. I look forward to continuing my work with HUD and the FHA to assess what can be done to address this issue and prevent any further harm to the Chino Hills community.”
