Congressman Garamendi Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Long-Term Transportation and Infrastructure Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – December 07, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, applauded the overwhelming passage of H.R. 22, the FAST Act. The bill provides $305 billion in funding for highways, rail and transit over the next five years, including at least $26.3 billion for California—a significant increase over current funding levels. The bill also provides $10.3 billion in funding for freight programs, which will have notable benefits for the Bay Area, as well as $4.2 billion for transportation alternatives such as walking and biking.
“This bipartisan, commonsense transportation bill is long overdue,” said Congressman Garamendi. “The bill provides long-term certainty for states and local governments, strengthens Buy America provisions that create jobs and boost American manufacturing, and increases funding for freight projects, public transit, Amtrak and transportation alternatives. I worked extensively with my fellow committee members and Secretary Foxx to get Congress to stop kicking the can down the road and send the President a long-term transportation bill to help rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. I’m gratified it finally happened.”
