City of Long Beach Celebrates Homeownership for Air Force Veteran at Habitat Dedication Ceremony

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 5, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, the City of Long Beach, in partnership with The Long Beach Community Investment Company (LBCIC), and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) celebrated the American dream of homeownership for an Air Force Veteran. <span id="more-3318"></span></p> <p>“Long Beach is proud to partner with Habitat LA to provide homebuyer opportunities for hard-working individuals and families,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “This effort is yet another example of how strongly the City values its commitment to providing safe, quality, affordable housing to Long Beach residents.” </p> <p>Located at 271 E. Cummings Lane, this two-bedroom, one-bath home is one of four properties within the City that have been removed from foreclosure and fully renovated through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Neighborhood Stabilization Program 3 (NSP3). Habitat LA coordinated and completed the rehabilitation of this property. </p> <p>“We are thrilled to celebrate the dedication of a Habitat home in North Long Beach,” said Councilmember Rex Richardson. “Sustainable housing projects not only impact individual quality of life, but also benefit the community at large by promoting vitality and livability throughout our neighborhoods.”</p> <p>Since 2009, more than 150 distressed properties have been acquired and rehabilitated to provide low- and moderate-income homeownership opportunities throughout Long Beach using HUD NSP funds.</p> <p>“It brings us great satisfaction to see such a rewarding project come to fruition,” said John Thomas, The LBCIC Chair. “The LBCIC is dedicated to investing our resources to remove blight, transform properties, and accommodate vital uses that allow Long Beach to continue to flourish.”</p> <p>This dedication will provide a home for Roxana Gomez and her son. Selected homebuyers must be able to obtain an affordable first mortgage, and be income-qualified to receive silent second mortage assistance from the City/LBCIC. Habitat-assisted buyers are also required by Habitat LA to attend homebuyer education classes and invest “sweat equity” hours toward the construction of their home. </p> <p>“It has been very fulfilling for all of us at Habitat LA serving Roxana, who served our country in the Air Force,” said Erin Rank, President/CEO of Habitat LA. “Roxana will make a great homeowner and member of her new community.” </p> <p>Habitat LA will use this dedication as an opportunity to recognize donors who have supported its Habitat for Heroes Veterans initiative.
