“Our objective is to be the most jobs aggressive, business friendly city in California,” said Mayor Gary Davis. “The Permit Simplicity Program is one more way we are proving our commitment to making it easier to do business in Elk Grove.”
Permit Simplicity streamlines the permitting process by entrusting pre-qualified professionals such as private engineers and architects to submit plans in accordance with the program guidelines for an expedited review and permit issuance. All buildings are still required to comply with all applicable codes. The pre-qualified submitter process is expected to improve the average plan review turnaround times from the current 9-day average and instead have permits ready to issue the next day or up to three days depending on the complexity of the project.
The Building Department is now accepting applications from eligible professionals to become certified through the Permit Simplicity Program. Architects, structural engineers, landscape architects, and civil engineers meeting the program’s application and eligibility criteria may become certified as a Permit Simplicity Certified Professional (PSCP). Only projects submitted by a PSCP will be eligible for the Permit Simplicity Program.
“The Building Department is excited to pilot this innovative program,” said Shane Diller, City Code Enforcement Manager. “We recognize the value it presents for our residents, businesses, and the building community.”
Similar programs are being considered in neighboring jurisdictions including Yolo County and Rancho Cordova. A regional dialogue is under way regarding certification standards and practices to protect consumers.
